Happy new year everyone! hope you all had good christmases.
I was thinking about the fashion trends that have happened over the past year and some came to mind that I really hope don't carry on this year.
1. Ugg boots and Ugg boot rip-offs
This photo of Paris Hilton proves everything for me. What is the appeal of Ugg boots? They're chunky, in weird brown colours. Most of the time when I see people wearing them, it's been raining and half of the boots are soggy and they're squelching in them. Other times, the boots don't even fit the feet of the wearer and they're just walking on the side of them. Fair enough, they're warm and comfy, but if this is the case, why do people wear them with short skirts/shorts and no tights? it just defeats the object of warm boots. I really don't understand!
2. Large hoop earrings
I've had a problem with these for a few years now, and somehow people seem to keep wearing them and thinking they look good. I saw a girl wearing some today and they were made from some cheap metal and it had left a black smudge on each side of her face. Hoop earrings just look weird, some are so big that they rest on the shoulders of the wearer. I don't see why a pair of nice, beaded dangly earrings wouldn't do.
3.Leggings with short tops/ wearing tights as leggings
Now while I am a fan of leggings and do wear them often, one thing I can't understand is why people wear them with short tops. You can see pant lines, bum shapes and if the leggings are a bit old can sometimes see the person's underwear. When did we become a culture that doesn't have anything to hide? Women should want to wear clothes that make them look nice and leggings are not the way to do this. It just gives sleazy men more opportunity to make creepy comments. One guy told me he liked my ass the other day, and I was wearing trousers so what comment would I have got if I was wearing leggings or even worse tights as leggings. Tights have always been worn under things not so you can see the top of them. They can't be warm to wear and they show even more than leggings do. Not good.
4.Men's genie pant jeans
I really don't know where this trend came from, one day I suddenly noticed that lots of guys were wearing jeans that had baggy crotches and became really tight around the ankle. Usually paired with black or white sneakers, revealing a nice hairy ankle for everyone to see. How are these attractive? They make the wearer walk in a weird way and they can't be comfortable to wear or easy to get on or off. I just don't understand, with their slouchy hats and pierced ears, they are one step from looking like this:
Sorry if anyone has any of these items, this is just my opinion, not fact!

I commented yesterday and it's disappeared!! I love the genie - clever old Snophie! I agree with you on all points, although I am occassionally partial to a baggy crotch
ReplyDeleteI do love the genie though! no offense to him :)
